PUMALO sa mahigit siyam na milyong Pilipino ang nawalan ng trabaho sa loob ng halos isang taon sa gitna ng paghihigpit na ipinatutupad ng gobyerno upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Batay sa resulta ng Labor Force Survey ng Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA), aabot sa 9.1 milyong indibidwal na edad 15 pataas ang nakaranas ng pansamantala o permanenteng nawalan ng trabaho simula nuong Marso 2020 hanggang Pebrero 2021.
“Sa Pebrero 2021 Labor Force Survey, kasama ang katanungan kung ang isang indibidwal ay nakaranas ng pansamantala o permanenteng pagkatanggal sa trabaho sa loob ng panahong Marso 2020 hanggang Pebrero 2021,” pahayag ni PSA chief National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa.
Sa 9.1 milyong nawalan ng trabaho, 75.4 percent o 6.9 milyon ang nakapagtrabaho na o may sariling negosyo.
Aabot naman sa 13.5 percent o 1.2 milyon ang wala pa ring hanapbuhay hanggang ngayon at nasa 11.1 percent naman ang wala sa labor force o hindi aktibo sa paghahanap ng trabaho.
“Over the past year, employment figures showed the sensitivity of the labor market to the level of community quarantines that were imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19,” ayon sa joint statement ng mga economic manager ng gobyerno.
“However, with the sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases this month, the government has imposed the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and the adjacent provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, collectively called the ‘NCR Plus’ bubble, from March 29 to April 4,” dagdag nito.
“We will continue to monitor closely and assess the health and economic data as they come in order for us to deliver timely interventions and provide better opportunities for the people, especially the poor, amid this prolonged health crisis,” pagtitiyak pa nila.
Ang economic managers ng pamahalaan ay binubuo ng mga kalihim ng National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Finance, at Department of Budget and Management.
