CITING a radical spike in the fresh daily tallies of COVID-19 infections, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has issued IATF Resolution No. 116-C placing the entire Iloilo City under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from 23 to 31 May 2021.
Likewise, the IATF also opted to extend the second most stringent lockdown level for Apayao, Benguet and Cagayan until the end of the month.
“Upon the appeal of the local government unit, the risk-level classification of Iloilo City shall be escalated to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine beginning May 23, 2021, until May 31, 2021. Resolved further that upon the recommendations of the Screening and Validation Committee, Apayao, Benguet, and Cagayan shall retain their risk-level classification of MECQ until May 31, 2021,” the IATF said in the resolution.
The IATF added that the risk=level classification of the provinces and highly urbanized cities shall be without prejudice to their further reclassification as may be warranted and the declaration of localized enhanced community quarantine in critical areas.
On the other hand, Department of Health (DoH) Metro Manila Health Development Director Dr. Gloria Balboa admitted that while there is a downward trend in the National Capital Region (NCR), there is an increase of COVID-19 cases outside the NCR Bubble plus.
“First, we are happy that there is a continuous decline in the COVID cases in Metro Manila but we also see a spike in the number of cases in the provinces,” Balboa said.
She expressed confidence that the decrease in COVID cases in Metro Manila will continue.
The IATF has approved the implementation of general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions in the NCR Bubble plus until 31 May 2021.
