THERE is a big possibility that winning candidates for the presidential and vice presidential race may be proclaimed this coming Thursday, May 26, 2022 since the canvassing by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) will be done non-stop.
This announcement was made by House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza on the eve of the canvassing by the NBOC.
He said that once canvassing starts tomorrow, the canvassing will be held non-stop with no breaks or suspension of session. This was already discussed between Senate and House officials recently.
Mendoza said once canvassing ends on Wednesday night, the NBOC may be able to proclaim winning candidates by Thursday morning.
Mendoza believes that the NBOC can do this since aside from a faster canvassing process because of an electronic system, there will also be alternate members from both chambers, and shifting hours will be implemented so that legislators who are members of the NBOC will have time to rest.
He also emphasized that they are not rushing things but the process is much faster now, and assured that the NBOC will be transparent to the public.
