A saliva-based testing kit that allows both home and on-site corporate collection of saliva samples is now available in the Philippines.
The diagnostic kit, called VereRT ZeroPrep COVID-19 PCR Kit, is developed by Singapore-based biotechnology company Veredus Laboratories that specializes in developing portable diagnostic tool kits.
This safe and non-invasive test method aims to accelerate and enhance screening amid this pandemic.
This Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved saliva-based COVID-19 testing kit is introduced in the country by MyEG Philippines, Inc., in partnership with IP Biotech, Inc. (IPB), a licensed importer of vaccines and medical devices in the Philippines, and Family Vaccine and Specialty Clinics, Inc. (FVSC), a chain of vaccination clinics in the country.
The collection of saliva samples using the VereRT ZeroPrep COVID-19 PCR Kit will be done by licensed medical professionals. The samples are then sent to partner laboratories for processing, and test results delivered in 1-2 working days.
This saliva-based testing, said to be also approved for use in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, can also detect the new strains of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) that has been reported in United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil.
With this new testing kit from MyEG, people can now be tested either in the safety of their homes or in the confines of their workplace, which is more convenient, efficient. and far less invasive than conventional methods without compromising accuracy.
Testing will also become much more accessible and will also ensure better protection for people and frontline healthcare providers by reducing the need for close contact since samples can be collected in the comforts and safety of the home. It can also enhance early accurate detection and subsequent early intervention, which is instrumental in containing the spread and impact of the COVID-19 virus.
Furthermore, this effort can help ease the pressure on the country’s frontline workers who have been working tirelessly in the past year.
