Gen San precinct commander sacked for assaulting subordinates

THE precinct commander of a police station in General Santos City was ordered relieved for allegedly assaulting personnel assigned in his precinct.

The relief order was given by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar after learning that PCapt Nemecio Calipjo Jr., chief of Police Precinct 8 in Barangay Tinagacan, allegedly punched and slapped four police Non-Commissioned Officers assigned in his precinct.

I have already directed the RD, PRO12 to immediately relieve Police Captain Nemecio Calipjo, Jr. as commander of the General Santos City Police Precinct 8 while the investigation is being conducted against him,” said PGen Eleazar.

One of the complainants alleged that the incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. last Sunday (October 31) when Calipjo arrived at the police precinct and apparently drunk. The complainant claimed the police precinct chief ordered his men to be at formation in front of the precinct and, holding an M-16 rifle, started castigating and threatening to kill them.

Calipjo allegedly punched and slapped his subordinates while castigating them for about an hour and the rifle he was wielding even accidentally went off when he set it down. It was claimed that the precinct commander was angry at his men for their alleged inaction on the concern brought to them by a resident close to Calipjo.

All police commanders should set good leadership examples to their men and what Police Capt. Calipjo, based on the initial report I received, was clearly a breach of discipline and violation of PNP rules and regulations,” said PGen Eleazar.

I certainly won’t allow this kind of police officer to lead the community because if he himself can’t follow the rules and respect his fellow police officers, most likely he also won’t respect the rights of civilians,” he added.

PGen Eleazar said if proven true, Calipjo’s actions will not be tolerated by the PNP leadership, adding that the police official would face serious sanctions over his actions.

The Internal Affairs Service is expected to conduct its own investigation of the incident to determine the administrative cases that would be filed against Calipjo.

We are very strict in our desire to instill discipline in our police force. This is not the kind of police personnel that we would want to remain in our ranks,” PGen Eleazar said.
