SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – A former contractor in this free port who failed to pay for Social Security System (SSS) contributions as an employer did not escape the long reach of the law after a complaint was filed against him by former employees.
Arnold Carreon y Yanga, a 44-year-old resident of Barangay Parada, Valenzuela City, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 6, at the marshalling yard of a vehicle auction firm here by elements of the Olongapo City Police Office (OCPO), with the assistance the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s Intelligence and Investigation Office (IIO) and Law Enforcement Department (LED).
The suspect was apprehended through an Alias Warrant of Arrest issued on July 2, 2020 by Judge Raymond Viray of Regional Trial Court 75 in Olongapo City, and with intelligence information from OCPO’s Barangay Information Network (BIN).
Carreon was charged with violation of Republic Act 1161, or the Social Security System Law, particularly Sec. 22 (A) in relation to Sec. 22 (D) and Sec. 28 (E).Criminal Case number 2019-1591 has been filed against the suspect and the court had recommended a bail of P72,000, records show.
According to the SBMA-IIO, Carreon was the owner of Carreon Motorworks, which used to be a contractor for United Auctioneers Incorporated (UAI). The suspect now works as a supervisor for Heat Motorworks, which is also a contractor of the UAI.
Former employees of Carreon Motorworks had filed charges against their former employer for failing to pay for the employer’s share of their SSS contributions.
Under RA 1161, employees and their employer jointly pay for SSS contributions of 12% of the monthly salary credit (MSC), which is not lower than P2,000 and not exceeding P20,000.
This is being shared by the employee and the employer at 4% and 8%, respectively.
Carreon is presently under the custody of OCPO’s Police Station 3 for documentation and will be brought to the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital in Olongapo City for physical and medical examination before being presented to the court with jurisdiction over the case.
