Duterte-Duterte team-up still possible

A “Duterte-Duterte” father-daughter team-up for next year’s presidential elections is still possible, according to a top Palace official.

“Anything is possible. Nothing is impossible,” says presidential spokesperson Harry Roque when asked for an update as to the administration’s potential standard bearer and running mate.

Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte and her daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte are seriously contemplating on their political plans for the 2022 political exercises.

The elder Duterte earlier told the public to consider him as a candidate for vice president “to maintain equilibrium.” A couple of weeks later, her daughter Sara, who had earlier denied wanting to follow her dad’s footsteps, announced that she is now open to the idea of running for President – citing strong public clamor for what she aptly referred to as “continuity.”

Interestingly, renowned political analyst Mon Casiple doesn’t see it that way.

According to Casiple, seeing a Duterte-Duterte tandem for next year’s presidential election is neither logical nor pleasing for the Filipino voters adding that such a pair is headed to an uphill battle.

There’s an inherent problem there because both are from Mindanao. Mindanao has a very low number of voters. Considering this will be a strong election, it’s a negative factor if it’s a Duterte-Duterte.”
