THE Department of Health (DOH) again warned the public of a possible spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

According to DOH spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, they have noted a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country and other Asian countries a few months after an increase in cases in North American and European countries.

Vergeire confirmed that countries in Europe who were the first to implement widespread vaccination are now experiencing another spike in COVID-19 cases.

Included are countries such as Slovenia, Netherlands, Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

Included in the easing of restrictions is the lifting of the policy in using face masks, particularly in England that started last July 19 despite the increase in the number of infections.

The same thing was done in the Netherlands who also lifted the policy on face mask use as long as social distancing of 1.5 meters is observed.

Aside from this is the continued refusal of some to have themselves vaccinated and used vaccine passes in Western Europe, and the hesitancy of parents to have their children vaccinated amid the reopening of classes in schools.

Because of this, Vergeire reiterated the continued strict adherence to minimum public health standards, and they are hopeing that what is happening now in Europe won’t happen in the Philippines.

Relatedly, she urged businessmen and local government units to ensure the enforcement of health protocols and standards under the Safety Seal, especially on the 3Cs o closed spaces, crowded places and close contact settings

She also encouraged everyone to have themselves vaccinated to avoid serious symptoms of COVID-19.
