THE Department of Health (DOH) today reported over 51,000 dengue cases in the country starting January up to June 18, 2022.
The DOH said that the 51,622 cases recorded in the period is higher by 58 percent compared with the same period in 2021.
The most number of cases was recorded in the National Capital Region (NCR), Central Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula. Out of this number, 239 have already died.
Meanwhile, 15 regions already went over the epidemic threshold for the past four weeks.
The DOH reminded the public to be always ready and should always remember the “4S” in order to prevent dengue.
The “4S” include “Search and destroy, Self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Say no to indiscriminate fogging.”
According to DOH Infectious Disease expert Dr. Eric Tayag, although the 15 regions in the country went over the epidemic threshold, this does not mean that there is already an outbreak.
But Tayag reminded that with the continuous rains, expect the number of dengue cases to go higher.
“This is just the start of the dengue season that’s why it is important that the 4S strategy is well understood by our kababayan,“ Tayag explained in a TV interview.
He said there is still time to avoid the increase in dengue cases by remembering the 4S strategy, which he said is very important.
He said the symptoms of dengure are somewhat similar to COVID-19 symptoms that’s why it is important to carefully examine people who may be showing symptoms.
