Bacnotan, La Union — The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region, in collaboration with the local government of Bacnotan, successfully held the 2025 Buntis Congress on April 30, 2025, in support of maternal health promotion and service delivery for pregnant women.
The event aligned with DOH’s mission to enhance maternal and child health by providing critical educational sessions and essential medical services.
“Conducting a Buntis Congress is vital to ensuring pregnant women receive the knowledge and healthcare services they need, such as OB consultations and the Tetanus Diphtheria vaccine,” said DOH-Ilocos Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco. “Equally important is the involvement of their partners to provide the right support and better understand the journey of pregnancy.”
A total of 65 pregnant women attended the event, including 15 teenagers. The congress featured lectures on proper nutrition during pregnancy, adolescent health, teenage pregnancy prevention, and family planning.
Participants also received free health services including prenatal check-ups, vitamin supplements, and vaccinations. Additionally, routine immunization was provided for children aged 0–12 months.
Director Sydiongco urged all expectant mothers to complete the recommended eight antenatal visits at their respective rural health units. “It’s also crucial to seek assistance from barangay health workers, especially for those living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs),” she emphasized.
