THE Senate and the House of Representatives will start the canvassing of votes for presidential and vice-presidential candidates during the May 9 national and local elections starting May 24, 2022.
In a meeting, the Senate and the Lower House agreed that when the session of Congress resumes on May 23, the two chambers will convene as the National Board of Canvassers or NBOC.
On the morning of May 23, the ballot boxes that contain the Certificates of Canvass (COCs) and Election Returns (ERs) will be transferred from the office of the Senate in Pasay City to the House of Representatives in Batasang Pambansa building in Quezon City.
Canvassing proper starts as 2 pm on May 24, 2022, while on May 25-27, 2022, the canvassing of the NBOC-Congress will be from 10 a.m. up to 10 p.m.
Based on the Constitution, the NBOC-Congress will count the votes and will be the one to proclaim the winner and the new president and vice president of the country.
