FORMAL charges were filed against a policeman who allegedly fired his gun in an early morning commotion at a bar in Quezon City.
The policeman, PLt. Col. Mark Julio Abong, was charged with violation of Article 254 under the Revised Penal Code (illegal discharge of firearm), violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, Violation of Omnibus Election Code, Physical Injury, Slander by Deed and Disobedience upon and Agent of Person in Authority before the Quezon City Prosecutors Office.
The filing of charges against Abong stemmed from a reported shooting incident that happened at a restobar located along Scout Rallos and Scout Tobias in Brgy. Laging Handa in Quezon City.
Abong was immediately arrested by responding policemen from the Kamuning Police Station.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. condemned the actions of Abong in the strongest possible terms, saying law-breaking policemen have not place in the police organization.
“Abong’s unwanted actuations smack of abuse of power and authority by a man in uniform, and I will not tolerate that,” the DILG chief said, adding that he already ordered a comprehensive background check on Abong’s current status at the PNP, while the administrative complaint was already referred to the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
He also commended members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) for their swift action and apprehension of the suspect.
