SUMAILALIM sa limang araw na “hybrid training” ang mga opisyal ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) kasama ang iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno na sangkot sa mga gawain kontra terorismo para sa pagpapahusay ng pambansang kakayahan upang matukoy at maiwasan ang paglalakbay ng mga terorista at mga kriminal sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng API at PNR system.
Ang mga sistema ng Advance Passenger Information API at Passenger Name Record (PNR) ay ang mga pangunahing sistemang nasasangkot sa Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) ng BI, na isang electronic data exchange system na magbibigay-daan sa BI na makatanggap ng paunang impormasyon tungkol sa mga dumarating na dayuhan.
“This data would particularly be useful in preventing the entry of suspected terrorists to the country,” ayon kay Melvin Mabulac, pinuno ng APIS office ng BI.
Ang seminar ay bahagi ng UN Countering Terrorist Travel Program at pinangunahan ng United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, kasama ang UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, ang International Civil Aviation Organization, Interpol, UN Office on Drugs and Crime, ang UN Office of Information and Communications Technology, at sinusuportahan ng pamahalaan ng bansang Australia.
Samantala, ang mga opisyal ng BI na nagsasagawa ng pangunahin at pangalawang tungkulin sa paliparan ay sumailalim sa isang 3-araw na virtual na pagsasanay sa mga karapatang pantao, gender-sensitivity, at child-friendly approach sa pangangasiwa ng trafficking in persons (TIP) para sa mga frontline officer, na inorganisa ng ASEAN. Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, sa pakikipagtulungan sa ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking.
Kabilang sa mga dumalo sa nasabing pagsasanay ang mga opisyal ng imigrasyon mula sa mga bansang miyembro ng ASEAN.
“These trainings improve the quality of our personnel to better implement some of our key roles,” pahayag ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.
“The pandemic did not stop these terrorists or these traffickers from their illicit activities. In fact, there is more reason for us to be alert and on guard in these trying times. Our cooperation with our international counterparts will greatly aid us in ensuring that our borders and our people are protected from these grave threats,” dagdag pa ni Morente.
