THE current head of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), Director General Gerald Bantag, will remain as the chief of the BuCor, which oversees the administration of the New Bilibid Prisons and other prison facilities in the country under the Department of Justice (DOJ).
This was confirmed by DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who said he had a meeting with the BuCor chief.
Remulla declined to reveal details of his meeting with Bantag.
Bantag was appointed BuCor chief by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019, replacing Nicanor Faeldon but it was only last March 2022 that Bantag was formally appointed by Duterte and took his oath as director general of the BuCor.
Remulla said that based on the Bureau of Corrections Act of 2013, the BuCor director general has a tour of duty of not more than six years.
