For half a century, Perpetual Help Medical Center–Las Piñas (PHMC-LP) has been part of countless stories of healing, recovery, and hope. From caring for generations of patients to embracing international standards in healthcare management, the institution has built a legacy that reflects its enduring commitment to quality medical care in the Philippines.
That legacy took center stage as PHMC-LP celebrated its golden anniversary with a grand gala at Cove Manila, Okada Manila, bringing together medical professionals, institutional leaders, alumni, and partners who have contributed to the hospital’s growth over the past five decades.
The celebration, themed “Golden Threads: Weaving a Legacy Together for PHMC-LP,” honored the people and milestones behind the institution’s journey while highlighting its continuing contributions to the advancement of Philippine healthcare.
Secretary of Health Dr. Edwin Mercado graced the occasion as guest of honor and speaker. The evening also marked the birthday of Dr./BGen Antonio Tamayo, founder, chairman, and CEO of the DALTA Group of Companies, whose leadership has been instrumental in building the Perpetual Help legacy.
Raising the Bar for Healthcare Excellence
Among the anniversary’s most significant milestones was PHMC-LP’s attainment of four international ISO certifications, demonstrating its commitment to globally recognized standards in healthcare quality, workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and energy management.
The certifications include ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management, ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety, ISO 50001:2018 for Energy Management, and ISO 7101:2023 for Healthcare Quality Management.
The certificates were formally presented to Tamayo during the celebration, recognizing an institutional achievement made possible through the collective efforts of the hospital’s leadership, medical professionals, and support teams.
Of particular significance is ISO 7101:2023, an international standard specifically designed for healthcare organizations. It provides a framework for strengthening quality management, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
Together, the four certifications underscore PHMC-LP’s efforts to advance healthcare practices beyond clinical services. They also reflect the growing importance of responsible resource management, employee well-being, and institutional accountability in delivering quality patient care.
For the Philippine healthcare industry, such milestones demonstrate how hospitals can integrate international management standards into their operations while responding to the changing needs and expectations of patients and communities.
The anniversary also recognized individuals who helped advance the hospital’s healthcare initiatives. Dr. Virginia Crisostomo received a plaque of appreciation for spearheading the successful Breastfeeding Congress, which supported education and awareness on maternal and infant health. Dr. Nelia Frances Llanto was likewise honored for her leadership in securing the four ISO certifications.
A Legacy Built by People
Beyond its facilities and institutional achievements, PHMC-LP’s five-decade journey is also a story of the people who have sustained its mission.
The gala paid tribute to distinguished awardees from PHMC-LP and the JONELTA School of Medicine, recognizing contributions to healthcare service, medical education, and institutional development. Alumni were also acknowledged for their continuing connection to the Perpetual Help community.
A special tribute honored former hospital director Mrs. Cristina Consing, while the unveiling of the 50th Legacy Constellation Icon symbolized the individuals whose dedication and service have helped shape the institution’s history.
Guests also revisited the hospital’s anniversary activities through a commemorative video featuring the Run for Gold Fun Run, Wish Bus Roadshow, motorcade, Golden Bazaar, HMO Night, Breastfeeding Congress, and other recognition events.
These activities reflected the celebration’s broader purpose: bringing together the people and communities who have been part of the institution’s story while reinforcing the value of health awareness, professional collaboration, and community engagement.
The hospital’s connection with the JONELTA School of Medicine also highlights the important relationship between healthcare institutions and medical education. Such partnerships form part of the wider effort to develop future healthcare professionals and sustain the country’s medical workforce.
Looking Ahead to the Next 50 Years
As healthcare continues to evolve, hospitals face increasing demands for patient safety, service quality, operational efficiency, and innovation. PHMC-LP is positioning its next chapter around these priorities.
During the gala, the institution presented new and upcoming projects aimed at strengthening its capabilities and addressing the changing healthcare needs of the communities it serves.
The initiatives signal PHMC-LP’s intention to build on its established foundations while continuing to improve its services and institutional practices.
Its golden anniversary also offered a reminder that the progress of Philippine healthcare depends not only on medical technology and infrastructure but also on the dedication of healthcare professionals, the development of future practitioners, and the sustained pursuit of quality care.
For PHMC-LP, these priorities remain closely tied to its guiding commitment of being “Dedicated to Life.”
As the hospital enters its next 50 years, its story continues to be defined by the generations of patients it has served, the healthcare professionals who have carried its mission, and the pursuit of excellence that remains central to its future.
Five decades after its founding, PHMC–LP continues to build a legacy where compassionate care, professional dedication, and healthcare innovation come together in service of Filipino lives.
