Cebuana Lhuillier is marking 25 years of programs aimed at supporting Filipino youth through education, financial literacy, career preparation, leadership development and sports.
Since launching its Nationwide Scholarship Program in 2001, the Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. (CLFI) has partnered with 41 state colleges and universities across the country and helped more than 1,000 students from financially challenged backgrounds earn college degrees.
Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier, said the company’s youth programs are intended to provide young Filipinos with knowledge, skills and opportunities that can help them make decisions about their future.
“We want young Filipinos to have the knowledge and confidence to make choices that can shape their future. Whether it is pursuing their education, learning how to manage their finances, or finding opportunities to grow, we hope to give them a stronger foundation to build on,” Lhuillier said.
“When young people are given the right support and opportunities, they can go further, not only for themselves, but for the people and communities around them,” he added.
Apart from financial assistance for their studies, CLFI scholars participate in leadership boot camps, training sessions, learning activities and community outreach programs. Its Education-to-Employment program also provides scholars with preparation for entering the workforce.
The foundation has expanded its education initiatives beyond traditional college scholarships through its partnership with the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Since 2014, CLFI has supported 182 community learning centers and reached more than 63,000 learners under the program, which provides out-of-school youth and adult learners with an alternative route to completing basic education.
Financial Literacy for Students
Cebuana Lhuillier has also incorporated financial education into its youth development initiatives through Money Guro, a financial literacy platform led by Lhuillier.
The program covers topics such as saving, budgeting, investing, entrepreneurship and financial protection through workshops, webinars and digital content.
Its Money Guro sa Campus initiative brings financial education to schools by involving CLFI scholars as advocates who share practical money-management lessons with fellow students.
The company also developed the #LahatKasama Financial Literacy Module, which provides lessons on saving, investing and disaster preparedness.
The module was introduced during the National Financial Inclusion Summit 2025, held under the theme “#LahatKasama: Strengthening Financial Inclusion through Education.”
The event brought together educators, policymakers and industry representatives to discuss the role of education in expanding financial inclusion, with Lhuillier delivering the keynote address.
Supporting Young Athletes
Cebuana Lhuillier’s youth initiatives also extend to sports through programs supporting grassroots development and Filipino athletes.
Through Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP) and the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL), the company supports programs designed to identify and develop emerging athletes.
UTP provides young tennis players with opportunities to participate in age-group tournaments and grassroots competitions, while ASAPHIL conducts competitions and training programs for softball players.
The EDL Youth Tennis Program, launched in 2016, scouts promising players from the provinces and provides training intended to prepare them for higher levels of competition.
Athletic scholarships are also provided to help young athletes continue their education while pursuing their respective sports.
Cebuana Lhuillier said its youth initiatives have expanded over the past 25 years from scholarships to include alternative education, financial literacy, career preparation, leadership development and sports programs.
The company said it plans to continue supporting programs that provide young Filipinos with opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills needed for education, employment and other pursuits.
