A man accused of raping his stepdaughter allegedly shot himself in the forehead as authorities attempted to arrest him in Cebu. However, the suspect ended up with nothing more than a headache after the bullet failed to penetrate his skull, leading to his eventual arrest.
According to a report, operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation – Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO) conducted the arrest of the 27-year-old suspect in Naga City, Cebu.
The arrest was based on a complaint filed by his 16-year-old stepdaughter, who alleged that the suspect had been abusing her since she was 14 years old.
After briefly evading the authorities, the suspect went to his house, retrieved a .22 caliber firearm, and shot himself in the forehead.
However, he only sustained a wound as the bullet did not penetrate his skull and remained lodged, appearing as if it was embedded in his forehead.
Authorities apprehended him shortly after and brought him to the hospital to treat the wound and remove the bullet.
According to NBI National Director Jaime Santiago, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime against his stepdaughter and admitted to his suicide attempt.
“He admitted that he tried to commit suicide. He shot himself using a .22 caliber firearm—I’m not sure if it was homemade. Fortunately, the bullet did not pierce his skull,” Santiago said.
The official added that the suspect will be provided with legal counsel to assist him in making an extra-judicial statement regarding his confession to the crime.Authorities conducted the arrest after the 16-year-old victim reported the abuse to her grandfather, revealing that her stepfather had been molesting her since she was 14, during times when her mother was not around.
The suspect will face the appropriate criminal charges.
