Tagbilaran City Police crack down on loud motorcycles, destroy nearly 100 illegal mufflers

TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL—In a firm effort to reduce noise pollution and enhance public safety during New Year’s celebrations, the Tagbilaran City Police conducted a successful month-long operation targeting motorcycles equipped with illegal, excessively loud mufflers.

The operation, conducted throughout December, led to the confiscation of nearly 100 modified mufflers that violated noise regulation laws. Photos shared by authorities showed the seized mufflers being destroyed using a drum roller, or “pison,” as it is locally known.

According to the Tagbilaran City Police, the crackdown was launched in response to increasing complaints from residents about noise disturbances caused by “skeleton bikes” with illegal modifications. These motorcycles are often driven recklessly, creating disruptive noise that disturbs the peace, particularly during holiday festivities.

“This operation underscores our commitment to maintaining peace and order during the holiday season,” a police spokesperson stated. “We urge all motorists to comply with traffic and noise regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to a safer community.”

Nationwide Impact

The initiative aligns with similar enforcement actions reported in other local government units (LGUs) across the Philippines, highlighting a collective effort to promote quieter, safer streets during New Year celebrations.

Authorities also cautioned against the dangers of over-revving motorcycle engines, noting cases where excessive strain has caused vehicles to catch fire. Police reiterated that noise regulation laws, including limits on motor vehicle exhaust decibel levels, are in place to safeguard public health and safety.

Community Support

Residents have applauded the initiative, expressing relief at the reduction of noise disturbances. Many hope such measures will continue beyond the holiday season to ensure long-term peace and order in their neighborhoods.

Motorists are reminded to adhere to legal standards for vehicle modifications and to respect regulations designed to protect public welfare. Authorities emphasized that ongoing vigilance and enforcement are critical to fostering safer and quieter communities.
