6 dead, including 2 children, in Sampaloc residential fire

Six people, including two children, perished in a fire that consumed a residential building in Sampaloc, Manila, early Saturday morning, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The blaze occurred in a four-story building located at the corner of Laong Laan and Blumentritt Road.

The BFP reported receiving the fire alarm at 2:40 a.m., raising the first alarm at 2:49 a.m. and the second alarm a minute later.

Firefighters faced significant challenges in accessing the site due to a narrow entrance that could accommodate only one person at a time.

The victims, who came from two families, were discovered in different parts of the building. Three bodies were found on the second floor, which had collapsed due to its wooden structure, while the remaining victims were recovered on the ground floor.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials are examining a potential electrical wiring issue as a possible trigger.
