CHELSEA Manalo has brought pride to the Philippines by winning the National Costume Award at Miss Universe 2024!
The prestigious international pageant announced the thrilling news on Saturday, accompanied by a video compilation of the Top 3 finalists for the award.
Chelsea secured the top spot, followed by Chile’s Emilia Dides in second place and Vietnam’s Kỳ Duyên Nguyễn in third.
“Proudly representing their homeland! The National Costume is a way for contestants to share their country’s story, traditions, and values with the world,” Miss Universe shared.
Chelsea’s winning costume, titled Hiraya, was a stunning creation by designer Manny Halasan.
It paid tribute to the Philippines’ diverse religions and rich cultural heritage. The costume featured intricate Islamic art patterns, Puni—a traditional art form from Bulacan—and an image of Our Lady of Antipolo, also known as Our Lady of Good Voyage.
To complete the look, a beaded boat headpiece symbolized the Galleon Trade, representing Manila’s historical trade route with Mexico.
The Miss Universe Philippines organization expressed gratitude to fans, stating, “Thank you to all those who voted to help the Philippines win 1st place!” Chelsea echoed this sentiment in her comment, “#PanaloSiManalo,” while designer Manny Halasan shared his excitement on social media, exclaiming, “OMG Best in National Costume.
Thank you Lord!!!!!!! Congratulations Chelsea Manalo.”
Although Chelsea’s journey in Miss Universe 2024 ended in the Top 30, she achieved another milestone by being crowned the first-ever Miss Universe Asia.
This marks the second consecutive year the Philippines has taken home the National Costume Award, following Michelle Dee’s win in 2023.
