THE World Cup of Pool title returned to the Philippines after the duo of Johann Chua and James Aranas triumphed over the tough pair from Germany composed of Joshua Filler and Moritz Neuhausen via an emphatic 11-7 win in Lugo, Spain during the tournament’s finale.
When the smoke of battle cleared, the unseeded Chua and Aranas raised their hands in victory in a record-breaking feat to bring a record fourth World Cup of Pool of 9 ball title for the Philippines after a 10-year drought.
The win was worth US$60,000 (P3.32 million) for the duo.
Chua and Aranas now belong to the illustrious group of world champions in 9-ball doubles pool first ruled by the legendary Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante.
They became the third Filipino pair to cop the annual nine-ball tournament for doubles teams, joining the legendary tandem and Dennis Orcollo-Lee Vann Corteza duo, who won the crown in 2006 and 2009, and the pair of Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza in 2013.
