Abu Sayyaf members yield to gov’t forces in Basilan

ELEVEN members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, including one sub-leader, returned to the government fold.

According to Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosarrio, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM), the former rebels surrendered to the military in Basilan.

This came after one of their leaders, Radzmil Jannatul alias Khubayb, was killed in a recent encounter with military forces.

The former ASG members also surrendered a total of 11 high-powered firearms.

Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. said the ASG forces weakened after the death of their leader. He likewise hoped that with this, there will be peace in the areas and more rebels will return to the side of the government.

Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. also thanked the residents of Basilan for their cooperation in the military’s campaign against terrorism.
