Comelec to fast-track resolution of petitions on exemptions for the elections

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will speed up the resolution of pending petitions related to exemptions for the local and national elections this year.

During the hearing conducted by the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, the poll body was asked if the giving out of financial assistance or “ayuda,” free funeral programs and services of hospitals by local government units are forbidden during the campaign period.

According to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia, the Comelec en banc formed a special team that he leads.

Its aim, Garcia said, is to resolve all petitions in one sitting so it won’t take too long if petitions are resolved individually.

He said 34 petitions asking for exemptions are still pending with the poll body.

During the en banc meeting this week, Garcia said they expect to resolve at least half of the total number of petitions and submit them for resolution, and a decision to come out the following week.

Pero ang naunang 11 na petisyon naman, asahan na ang resolusyon ngayong linggo.
