COMPANIES that organize events such as flea markets and bazaars were urged to work with local government units (LGUs) to make sure that health protocols are observed during these events.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar gave the advice to event organizers. He also pointed out that while the police will deploy more personnel in expected areas of convergence as well as to continue coordinating with LGUs in enforcing minimum public health standards (MPHS), event organizers should also do their part.
“I would advise organizers of tiangges or bazaars to work with LGUs to ensure that participants in their activities strictly observe MPHS, particularly physical distancing,” the PNP Chief said in anticipation of events that would be organized for the holiday season.
He stressed the importance of observing health protocols, particularly physical distancing when it comes to dining during an event, even if al fresco dining, because this will force people to remove their face mask.
He also reminded the public to not let their guards down against COVID-19 particularly when they’re busy shopping at bargain stores, especially in known crowded shopping areas like Divisoria in Manila. He cautioned that people may be able to buy affordable goods but may end up spending more on hospitalization if they contract the disease.
He likewise stressed that some easing of restrictions doesn’t mean there’s no more threat from COVID-19 and that it won’t spread to more people anymore.
“We need to help each other to curb the spread of COVID-19,” the PNP Chief added.
