POPE Francis on Wednesday urged everyone to get vaccinated as he was perplexed why many people and even cardinals in the Roman Catholic Church have refused to get vaccinated.
According to the prelate, while boarding a plane returning from Slovakia, he found it a bit strange why many people refused to be vaccinated where in history, vaccines are human beings’ friends. He also added that as children people were vaccinated for measles and polio but no one said anything.
Pope Francis, who had already been vaccinated against the virus, urged everyone to get vaccinated for the common good.
He mentioned that in the College of Cardinals there are vaccine negationists and one of them has been hospitalized because of the virus.
Cardinal Raymond Burke, a conservative and a vaccine doubter, was hospitalized last month in the United States after being infected by the virus.
According to the conservative anti-vaccine bishops, mostly in the United States, Catholics can scrupulously object the vaccine on the grounds of religion, but the Pope has cleared that he never objects.
The pope has issued an appeal on behalf of a nonprofit US group and the public health coalition COVID Collaborative last month, that everyone should take the vaccines.
