Mandaluyong City launches COVID-19 modular hospital

THE local government unit (LGU) of Mandaluyong City on Wednesday has inaugurated its Modular Hospital located at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) compound located in the city.

As an isolation and dormitory facility for COVID-19 patients and healthcare workers, the modular hospital operates with at least 80 air-conditioned rooms and four others to accommodate healthcare professionals.

A 40-foot container van was transformed into a doctor or nurse’s area while a 20-foot one serves as an electrical room.

The modular hospital will further provide a space for laboratory and x-ray services, 48 air-conditioned rooms for COVID-19 healthcare workers, two laundry or utility rooms, and another two for kitchen or pantry.

The city’s new project was spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar with the help of NCMH head Dr. Noel Reyes and supported by the Department of Health (DOH), Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), and Mandaluyong local government.

In a Facebook post, Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos witnessed the inauguration of the facility along with Congressman Boyet Gonzales and DPWH Director Eric Ayapana.

With 957 active COVID-19 cases as of September 15, the official claimed that the move to open a modular hospital will help the city improve and intensify its response to combat the pandemic.
