PNP logs 77th COVID-19 fatality

A POLICE officer assigned in Negros Occidental is the latest member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who succumbed to the lethal effects of COVID-19.

The 41-year-old police officer thus became the 77the fatality from the PNP, according to PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar.

Based on the report, the officer was rushed to the hospital last June 17 after he experienced dry cough, back pains and difficulty of breathing for more than one week.

On June 19, his swab test test yielded positive result for COVID-19. On June 26, he was declared dead by his attending physician due to pneumonia.

Ako po ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng ating pulis na namatay. Napag-alaman din po natin na siya ay miyembro pala ng contact tracing team ng PNP. Kaya naman doble po ang ating effort para mabakunahan na ang ating kapulisan,“Eleazar said.

At the moment, around 168,515, or about 22.87 percent of the members of the PNP, had already received their first dose, while 15, 272 are now fully vaccinated, Eleazar added.

As of July 10, the PNP Health Service recorded 76 new cases raising the total cases to 28,791 with 1,413 active cases while 114 recoveries were also noted bringing the total recovered personnel to 27,301.
