Clash erupts between Taliban, resistance group

AFGHANISTAN— A heavy clash between the Taliban fighters and anti-Taliban groups took place around the northern Panjshir valley in Afghanistan on Thursday.

Panjshir Valley, a mountainous, inaccessible territory in the north region of Kabul, is the last holdout against the Taliban rule with a long history of defying the rebel group.

Erratic fights between Taliban and the National Resistance Front (NRF) have continued in two weeks. The Talibans have been overwhelming Panjshir province and seized three districts in the recent weeks through massive forces.

According to Fahim Dashti, a spokesperson of the NRF, the Taliban lost about 40 people in attempting to conquer Panjshir and lost a number of heavy equipment and weaponry which had been destroyed on Thursday.

The inaccessible landscape plays a vital role in maintaining the defense lineup of the country as it gives locals an advantage over the invaders as the NRF has been keeping the Panjshir valley free from the Taliban.
