The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 5,310 new COVID-19 infections today, which brings the total COVID-19 cases in the country to 1.193 million, bringing it closer to the 1.2-million mark.
Active cases, on the other hand, were at 46,037 cases, or about 3.9 percent of all COVID-19 cases in the country. There were also an additional 7,408 individuals who already recovered from the disease, bringing to 1,127,770 the number of recoveries recorded so far.
There were about 150 deaths today making the total COVID-19 fatalities breach the 20,000 mark with 20,169.
Based on the latest data received, all laboratories were operational on May 24, 2021 while four laboratories failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the four non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.1 percent of samples tested and 1.7 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH also noted that Six duplicates were removed from the total case count, with Four regarded as recoveries.
Also, 86 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
