New COVID-19 infections reached 5,790 today

THE Department of Health (DOH), in its latest COVID-19 case bulletin, registered 5,790 new COVID-19 cases today, May 16, 2021.

With the additional new cases, total COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 1,143,963. Of this total, 54,904, or 4.8 percent, are active cases.

There were also 7,541 recoveries to bring to 1,069,868 the total number of individuals who recovered from the dreaded disease.

Meanwhile, there were 140 deaths recorded today for a 19,191 total of COVID-19 fatalities.

The low number of cases is due to the low testing output of laboratories last Friday, 14 May 2021.

A total of 14 duplicates were removed from the total case count wherein 10 are recoveries.

Moreover, 90 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on May 14, 2021 while six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
