Around 1,350 heads of live hogs arrived in Quezon today and will be shipped in Metro Manila as part of the “whole-of-the-nation measures” to revive the hog industry and reduce pork prices of the Department of Agriculture.
The hogs, which arrived in Talao-Talao Port, Lucena City, were carried by 13 trucks and were sourced from different parts of Mindanao.
The hogs will be delivered to government-certified slaughterhouses and will be sold at Metro Manila markets following the imposed price cap under Executive Order 124.
As of today, more than 38,000 live hogs and 150,167 kilograms of carcasses have been shipped to Metro Manila from ASF-free areas nationwide.
The biggest contributor so far is the CALABARZON region, with 50 percent share.
