THE local media agreed to support the plan of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) to reposition the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) to be able to generate more investments.

AFAB Administrator Emmanuel Pineda and AFAB Corporate Technical Officer Paul Robert Salapantan stressed during the local kapihan with the local media that the AFAB, despite all the challenges, continues to work harder while positively leaning towards the agencyโ€™s power to declare economic zones within Bataan.

โ€œIf you are a businessman, you are a company, and you are looking for a place for your business, talk to us, come to us, because only โ€˜weโ€™ (AFAB) can create a zone for them (companies),” Salapantan remarked.

โ€œThe only things needed are the AFAB Boardโ€™s approval, the LGU concurrence, thatโ€™s it โ€“ itโ€™s a declared ecozone, itโ€™s a Freeport already. Thatโ€™s our advantage,” Pineda added.

Meanwhile, Pineda highlighted how the AFAB was able to provide an estimated P90 million worth of assistance to 30,000 workers through its FABayanihan Program and partnership with the offices of Senator Bong Go and Bataan Second District Representative Joet Garcia and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Furthermore, the Pineda made special mention of the AFAB Business Continuity Plan (BCP) as its major achievement as it led to the creation of its health unit that helped manage the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pineda also discussed how the AFABโ€™s COVID SAFE Shield Program encourages the FAB enterprises to further promote safety in the workplace through vaccination and testing, aside from securing the Safety Seal Certification by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

โ€œWe take pride in having this, as other IPAs do not have this. We challenged the locators to go even beyond the Safety Seal of the DOLE. Itโ€™s because, we recognize the percentage of vaccination and the institutionalization of the regular testing as mandated by DOLE,” Pineda explained.

With the passage of Republic Act 11453 or โ€œAn Act Further Strengthening the Powers and Functions of the Freeport of Bataanโ€ that amended the AFABโ€™s Charter under RA 9728, the AFAB now has strengthened powers and functions that allows for the establishment of the FABโ€™s expansion areas.
