Zambo cop is latest COVID-19 fatality in the PNP

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) announced today that a policeman assigned in Zamboanga is the latest PNP personnel who succumbed to COVID-19.

This raises the COVID-19 death toll in the PNP to 122.

Citing belated reports, PNP Chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar said the fatality is a senior sergeant assigned in Zamboanga as a patrol officer.

The 48-year old patient died last October 8, 2021 at the Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center due to COVID-19.

Medical records revealed the patient tested positive for COVID-19 on September 4, 2021 and has been under medical care to manage his comorbidity. The patient was noted to be undergoing dialysis and had a history of stroke.

The Chief PNP expressed his condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased police frontliner even as he assured death benefits and assistance to the orphaned kin.

The latest report of COVID-19 fatality came despite recent data that showed continuing decline in the number of PNP active cases since September 17 when it peaked to 3,200 active cases.

As of October 15, active COVID cases among PNP personnel is 1,023 with 40,004 recoveries out of the total 41,149 confirmed cases.
