LAGUNA – Paete is known as wood carving capital of the Philippines .The place Paete is coming from the root word “Paet or chisel”.In this place you can see beautiful artworks from wood or hand-made carvings.
Due to pandemic Covid-19,the wood carvings industry has become lethargic especially in selling their products.
To revive the livelihood of constituents of Paete,Vice Mayor Aurelio Paraiso said that wood carvers have gone online to market their products especially now that Christmas season is approaching .
In an interview of Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar in his Network Briefing News he said that “Medyo nakakabangon na nang paunti-unti ang ekonomiya ng bayan ng Paete [The economy of Paete is gradually recovering],” Paraiso said.
“Nagbigay po ng ayuda ang pamahalaang bayan dun sa mga small and medium entrepreneurs ng puhunan na walang tubo para unti-unting makabangon yung ating mga maliliit na nagnenegosyo [The municipal government has provided loan without interest to small and medium entrepreneurs so they can recover],” Vice Mayor Aurelio added.
In helping to promote Paete,local tourists are encourage to visit their wood carving shops,museum, images of saints and furnitures. Pilgrimage site in “Tatlong Krus” ,”St.James Parish church” oldest church in the country and Matabungkal falls for swimming.
