With ‘shabu’ at stake, gamblers nabbed in Navotas City

Authorities have arrested two men while betting for a stash of crystal meth or shabu as they play “cara y cruz” (heads or tails) in Navotas City.

Suspects Sherwin Tiu, 27 and Ariel Corona, 18, both residence of Barangay North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN) were caught by Maritime police while gambling inside the N. Symaco Consignacion, Market 3, using “shabu” as their stake.

Navotas City Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) Major Rommel Sobrido said around 12 p.m. of November 2, police responded to a phone call from a concerned citizen regarding the ongoing illegal gambling by the suspects.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the suspects playing “cara y cruz” and were subsequently arrested.

Several plastic sachets of suspected shabu worth P500 with P230.00 bet money and three-peso coins used by suspects as toss coins were recovered from their possession.

Tiu and Corona are facing criminal charges in violation of the City Ordinance 2020-33 (Curfew), PD 1602 as Ammended by RA 9287, Art. 151 (Disobedience to Person in Authority), RPC at Sec. 11 of RA 9165.
