COMBINED operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Monday seized more than 110 kilograms of suspected shabu worth approximately P749 million.
The contraband was placed inside four “balikbayan” boxes and was confiscated at the Manila International Container Port in Tondo, Manila.
The illegal drugs were seized during an interdiction operation conducted around 11:30 a.m. inside Container Facility Station 3, where boxes from California and addressed to recipients in Mandaluyong and Quezon City were inspected, the PDEA said in a statement.
A total of 106 vacuum-sealed plastic packs found to contain white crystalline substances were discovered hidden in boxes of cereal, snack packs, and instant noodles.
While no suspects have been arrested so far, authorities are working to identify those behind the shipment and trace any local contacts connected to the smuggling attempt.
