Suspect in Hernando robbery slay in Valenzuela nabbed

Authorities arrested a woman said to be among the suspects in the robbery-slay case of company messenger Niño Luegi Hernando in Barangay Paso De Blas, Valenzuela City last October 9.

Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian praised the Valenzuela Police Station under the command of P/Col. Fernando Ortega for the successful apprehension of Jo-Anne Quijano Cabatuan, 31 years old, from Brgy. Lawang Bato. Cabatuan was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest in her hideout in Brgy. Lourdes, Minalin, Pampanga.

Cabatuan was first tagged as a witness in the brutal shooting of Hernando by riding-in-tandem suspects Rico “Moja” Reyes and Narciso “Tukmol” Santiago, who fled the scene aboard their motorcycle with the victim’s sling bag that contained cash.

After a thorough investigation by the police, they discovered that Cabatuan herself was involved and considered a suspect for providing information to the suspected gunman on the whereabouts of Hernando after withdrawing a total of P442,714 in cash from the bank.

The police also discovered that Hernando testified earlier against the live-in partner of Cabatuan, who was later jailed after being charged with rape.

Two other suspects, Edgar Matis Batchar and Cpl. Michael Bismar Castro, who is on AWOL, were earlier arrested by the police. The two prime suspects, Reyes and Santiago, including PO1 Anthony Glua Cubos, are now the subjects of a manhunt operation after being charged with Robbery with Homicide.

The Valenzuela city government offered a P300,000 reward for each of the suspects for any information leading to their arrest.

“We will not stop until all the suspects are brought forward to justice,” says Mayor Rex.
