Suspect in Cebu Internet Café killing slain in shootout with police

Cebu City, Philippines – A man accused of shooting a victim inside an internet café was killed in a gunfight with police in Barangay Suba, Cebu City, early Tuesday morning, July 16.

Police identified the suspect as Jaymark Arnais, a resident of the same barangay, who was being pursued in connection with the July 15 killing of Ricardo Igot inside a local internet café.

Authorities said that around 4:00 a.m., operatives attempted to arrest Arnais when he reportedly opened fire, prompting law enforcement to return fire. The shootout resulted in Arnais’ death and left one police officer wounded. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital and is now recovering.

Arnais had been identified by witnesses and evidence as one of the gunmen involved in the killing of Igot, though police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.

Investigators are continuing their probe into both the fatal shooting and Tuesday’s encounter, while further details, including possible accomplices, are expected to be released in the coming days.
