LTO suspends InDrive driver who threatened passengers with knife over petty dispute

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered the immediate suspension of the driver’s license of an InDrive-accredited vehicle operator who was caught on video threatening passengers with a bladed weapon following a dispute over their destination.

LTO Acting Assistant Secretary and Chief Atty. Gregorio G. Pua, Jr. said the viral incident warranted swift and decisive action due to the grave threat posed by the driver.

“Maling propesyon ang napasukan ng driver na ito. Hindi hanapbuhay ang hanap niya kundi basag ulo at asunto,” Pua remarked, strongly condemning the behavior.

To prevent any recurrence of such dangerous behavior, the LTO issued a 90-day suspension of the driver’s license and directed the individual to submit a formal explanation as to why his license should not be permanently revoked.

The driver is facing administrative charges for Reckless Driving under Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136 and for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27(a) of the same law.

The vehicle’s registered owner has also been summoned to explain why she should not be held liable for Employing a Reckless Driver, as outlined in Paragraph 7, Title IV of the DOTC Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver forced the passengers out of the vehicle before pulling out a knife and threatening to stab them — a moment captured and widely shared on social media.

The LTO has also ordered the vehicle to be placed under alarm while the case is being resolved.
