Surgery was a success–Teves legal counsel

THE legal counsel of former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves said the former lawmaker’s surgery was a success.

According to Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, Teves is now in the recovery stage and his condition was described as stable.

The appendectomy operation of Teves was done at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Wednesday morning, where he was taken after he complained of pain in his abdomen.

Topacio, meanwhile, thanked University of the Philippines-Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael Tee, who made arrangements for Teves to be transferred to the PGH from his cell at the District Jail of Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

He also thanked Dr. Marc Paul Lopez who conducted the surgery on his client, which Topacio called a life-threatening medical condition.

When asked if Teves will be brought back to jail, Topacio said they will abide by the advice of Teves’ doctor.

Meanwhile, Topacio said he hopes that what happened to Teves will serve as a wake-up call to everyone, particularly the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s ability to immediately respond to medical emergencies that involve inmates.
