The Department of Health (DOH) today registered 6,258 new COVID-19 cases today, which brings to 1,171,403 the total COVID-19 infections in the country, according to the agency’s latest bulletin issued today, May 21, 2021.
Active cases, though, remain below the 60k level at 55,531, or about 4.7 percent of the overall case count.
Meanwhile, 2,586 were registered as recoveries to bring to 1,096,109 the total number of those who recovered from the dreaded disease that originated from Wuhan, China.
In terms of deaths, 141 individuals died today to bring COVID-19 deaths to a 19,763 total.
Based on the latest reports, all the laboratories were operational last May 19, 2021 but there were five laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
Also, based on data for the past 14 days, the contribution of the five laboratories were more or less 3.5 percent for all samples tested and 1.9 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH also noted that there were 10 duplicates removed from the total case count, wherein five are recoveries.
Also, 19 cases previously tagged as deaths were reclassified as recoveries while 74 cases tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
