SSS starts going after employers who failed to remit SSS contributions

THE Social Security System (SSS) said it has started going after businesses that failed to remit their contributions to the SSS, including that of their employees’ share.

SSS NCR West Division Vice President Luzviminda Limcauco said more or less 2,000 employers failed to remit their contributions.

This is only for the cities under their jurisdiction, which are the cities of Manila and Pasay.

Depending on the amount, employers can pay through installment all penalties that they failed to remit for contributions from one to four years.

Atty. Digna de Alban, head of the Legal Department of SSS NCR West, added those who refuse to remit contributions may face imprisonment of from six years to not more than 12 years, aside from paying additional fines.

Meanwhile, SSS Vice President For Public Affairs Fernando Nicolas reiterated that it is important to collect all unremitted contributions of employers to be able to fund the benefits of affected employees, including those of retirees.

This morning, the SSS visited and spoke to 10 companies, including YMCA Philippines where based on data, did not remit their contributions from 1997 until 2016.
