“Squid Game” season 2 earns Golden Globe nomination ahead of December premiere

THE highly anticipated second season of “Squid Game” is already making headlines as it secures a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series – Drama. It stands as the only South Korean series in the category, competing against titles like “The Diplomat,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Shogun,” “Slow Horses,” and “The Day of the Jackal.”

To qualify for this prestigious nomination, projects must air within the year and be submitted by November 4. The Golden Globe Awards ceremony is set to take place on January 5, 2025.

The second season of “Squid Game” is set to premiere on December 26 on Netflix. This season sees the return of Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae), also known as Player 456, who reenters the deadly Squid Game after three years to uncover those behind the sinister competition and bring it to an end. Fans can look forward to new games and an expanded cast of characters.

Returning cast members include Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo. The second season will also introduce Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Uk, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ae Sim, Lee David, Choi Seung Hyun, Roh Jae Won, Jo Yu Ri, and Won Ji An.

The first season of “Squid Game” achieved unprecedented success, with its cast earning numerous top acting awards from international organizations. It was previously nominated for Golden Globes in three categories, with O Yeong Su becoming the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series.
