Speaker Romualdez denies stroke rumors, reaffirms active role in public service

THE Office of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Saturday dismissed “malicious rumors” circulating online that he had suffered a stroke and was confined in a hospital.

“These allegations are completely untrue and are clearly designed to mislead the public and sow confusion,” said lawyer Lemuel Erwin Romero, head executive assistant of the Speaker’s office, in a statement.

Romero emphasized that Speaker Romualdez is in excellent health and continues to perform his duties with dedication and focus. He pointed to the Speaker’s active participation in several official engagements on December 6, highlighting his commitment to public service.

In the morning, Speaker Romualdez attended a ceremony at Malacañang for the signing of two significant laws by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.: the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act and the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act. The event was attended by other House leaders and senators and received extensive media coverage, underscoring Romualdez’s active legislative involvement.

Later that day, the Speaker joined the year-end celebration and thanksgiving event of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, alongside President Marcos Jr., governors, and senators. At the event, he reinforced collaboration between national and local government leaders.

“We urge everyone to rely only on verified and official sources of information and to reject disinformation that seeks to undermine trust in our leaders and institutions,” Romero concluded.
