BULACAN- The son of the COVID-19 Delta variant positive in the town of San Ildefonso also tested positive for COVID-19, which is considered local transmission and it is feared that some residents may have already contracted the feared virus.

However, it is not known yet whether the virus that hit Patient No. 118’s child is also a Delta variant. It will take up to two weeks before the type of variant can be traced.

San Ildefonso Mayor Carla Galvez-Tan also clarified that Patient 118 is not an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and it is suspected that the virus was acquired from the hospital where the patient came for a check up.

Patient 118 was from Barangay Poblacion who was checked in a private hospital on July 10 and the result came out the next day and it was positive for COVID-19.

The patient was then advised by the hospital to inform the local government unit immediately.

However, Patient 118 did not report it to the LGU until the report from IATF came out that Patient 118 is a COVID-19 Delta variant positive so the municipal health office immediately went to Patient 118’s house on July 24 for contact tracing.

On the same day Patient 118 was subjected to an RT-PCR test and again was tested positive, and the son also tested positive.

“Si Patient 118 ay kasalukuyan pa rin positibo sa Delta, hindi pa po sure kung Delta rin ang kaniyang anak na nahawa na rin niya. Pagpunta namin ay nakabukas pa rin ang carinderia at saka nagta-tricycle pa rin yung isang anak,” said Mayor Tan.

The mayor ordered a household lockdown on Patient 118’s house, same as in a Purok/ Sitio in Barangay Buhol na Mangga, where 22 in a family were tested positive of COVID-19.

The said Purok was also placed under lockdown.

It was learned that from 30 COVID-19 cases, it has already ballooned to 117 active cases where according to the mayor, nine to 10 new cases are recorded daily in the town, including five nurses who also tested positive.

We have another surge. I hope we can be more careful. Hopefully it won’t increase and please don’t discriminate against them,” Tan said.

Liquor ban and prohibiting of public mass gatherings are also being strictly implemented based on the executive order issued by the local government of San Ildefonso.

Meanwhile, Governor Daniel Fernando ordered the Provincial Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 to further intensify contact tracing and strict implementation of the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR) strategy to prevent further spread of COVID cases especially now that the more contagious variant of the virus has entered the province.

The province of Bulacan detected three cases of the COVID Delta variant, one in San Ildefonso, one in Santa Maria, and one in Plaridel.

According to the governor, these COVID-19 Delta variant positives are still under quarantine and household lockdown to prevent the spread of infection.

Fernando also announced that at least 40 provincial capitol employees, including PTF Response Cluster Head Dr. Hjordis Marushka Celis, are in isolation after having been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive.
