DOH: new COVID-19 cases rose slightly to 8,735; total infections near 1.6-M mark

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,735 new COVID-19 cases today, slightly upward from yesterday’s 8,147 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 1, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country close to the 1.6-million mark at 1,597,689, while active cases also rose upward to 63,646 from yesterday’s 60,887 count. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

A total of 127 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, lower than yesterday’s 167 total. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 28,016.

The DOH also logged 5,930 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, which is lower by almost half of the 9,117 recoveries recorded yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,506,027 individuals listed as total recoveries.

Meanwhile, positivity rate is at 14.9 percent with 50,116 people who were tested.

Majority, or 95.3 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 11 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which eight were recoveries.

Aside from that, there were also nine cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 75 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

Two laboratories were not operational on July 30, 2021 while four laboratories were not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the two non-operational and four non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 1.8 percent of samples tested and 1.3 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH also continues to remind the public to strictly observe the Minimum Public Health Standards to ensure the safe recovery of our country. The moment any symptoms of COVID-19 are experienced, coordinate immediately with the BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams) or with the One COVID Referral Center.

The agency reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
