Six arrested for election gun ban violation

SIX individuals were arrested for violating the existing election gun ban, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the violators were from Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Iloilo, Cainta, Rizal, and from Buluan in Maguindanao.

Garcia emphasized that they are not remiss in reminding people daily in the enforcement of the election gun ban, and that all gun licenses and permits are suspended starting last January 12, 2025, the start period of the firearms ban.

The election gun ban for the May 2025 mid-term elections will be in effect up to June 11, 2025.

“Yung mga argumentong hindi nila alam, paulit-ulit po tayo, araw-araw tayong nananawagan,” Garcia emphasized.

For the duration of the gun ban, the poll body and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have established checkpoints in several areas to ensure compliance to the ban, especially in areas with reported election-related violence.
