DAGDAG paghihigpit ng sinturon ang gagawin ng mga konsyumer dahil nag-anunsyo na ang Manila Electric Company (Meralco) ng pagtataas ng singil ng kuryente ngayong Marso.
Sa anunsyo ng Meralco, aabot sa P0.0625 kada kilowatt-hour (kWh) ang madaragdag sa singil ng kuryente o magiging P9.6467/kWh mula sa P9.5842/kWh noong Pebrero.
Katumbas ito ng P13 dagdag sa electricity bill ng mga kustomer ng Meralco na kumukonsumo ng 200 kWh.
Ikinatwiran ng Meralco sa pagtataas ang pagsipa rin ng generation charge ng P0.2780 o naging P5.4737/kWh na mula sa dating P5.1957/kWh na sinasabing dulot naman ng mataas na Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
“Despite improvement of supply conditions in the Luzon grid, WESM prices remained elevated in February and the secondary price cap was imposed 5.63 percent of the time,” ayon sa kumpanya.
“With the increase in demand and the scheduled maintenance outage of Quezon Power and First Gas-San Lorenzo plants, Meralco sourced additional supply from the WESM in the February supply month. As a result, WESM charges increased by P13.4211/kWh,” dagdag paliwanag nito.
Aminado ang Meralco na may kalakihan ang itinaas ng generation charge ngunit nakipag-ugnayan na umano sila sa mga supplier upang ipagpaliban ang koleksyon ng bahagi ng generation costs.
“These deferred charges will subsequently be billed on a staggered basis over the next three months as directed by the ERC,” ayon pa sa Meralco.
Maliban sa generation charge, tumaas din umano ang singil ng Independent Power Producers (IPPs) ng P0.1625/kWh dahil sa mahinang pagdispatsa ng suplay ng Quezon Power and First Gas-San Lorenzo bunsod ng maintenance outages nito. Nakadagdag din sa paglaki ng IPP costs ay ang paghina ng piso laban sa dolyar.
