FOR presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is the most logical choice to replace President Rodrigo Duterte, when the latter steps down in June 2022.
In a radio interview, Roque went as far as decimating other presidential hopefuls by calling the Davao City mayor as the “most qualified” person to succeed her father.
Roque made the statement on Friday despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s pronouncement on Thursday that his daughter is not running for president.
The chief executive also said the presidency was not a job for a woman because men and women have different “emotional setups.”
“Malayo pa naman po ang eleksiyon, so tutok na muna tayo sa pandemya,” the Palace official said.
“Pero sa akin po, tingin ko si Mayor Inday Sara, siya ang pinaka-qualified, pinakahanda at, as the survey shows, kung tatakbo talaga siya, siya talaga ang mananalo.”
Roque expressed optimism that Sara Duterte “will make the right decision at the right time.”
“Tingin ko Inday Sara will make the right decision at the right time kung ano ang makakabuti sa kaniyang ama at kung ano ang makakabuti sa sambayanang Pilipino,” he said.
Sara Duterte emerged as a possible contender for the presidency in the May 2022 election after she topped the latest Pulse Asia survey on Filipinos’ preferences for the country’s top job.
The mayor has since asked pollsters to exclude her name from future surveys.
