RIZAL, CAGAYAN – Mayor Atty. Joel Ruma of Rizal, Cagayan was ambushed and killed by unidentified assailants on the evening of Wednesday, April 23, 2025, while he was out campaigning.
According to initial reports, the mayor was shot by still unknown suspects in a sudden attack. He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility but was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators or determine the motive behind the killing. An investigation is currently underway.
The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about the safety of public officials during the election season.
